The University of New Haven men's soccer team eyes its first victory of the fall, wrapping up the non-conference slate at Molloy on Friday before Northeast-10 action begins this Tuesday on Kayo Field with a visit from Saint Rose.
Â
The Chargers are 0-2-1 thus far in 2013 following losses to Dowling (2-1) and Queens (3-0) and a 2-2 draw at Saint Thomas Aquinas. In addition to an own goal, New Haven's scoring has come from Sal DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington / Central Connecticut State University) and Will Richard (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge).
Â
Molloy is also winless at 0-2-0, opening the season with a 1-0 loss at Adelphi and dropping a 1-0 home decision to Merrimack. The Lions, who took a 2-1 victory at Kayo Field last fall to begin the 2012 campaign, went 7-10-0 last season and were tabbed for ninth of 11 teams in the East Coast Conference Preseason Poll.
Â
A 2-1-0 start for Saint Rose has already topped last season's 1-15-0 mark. The Golden Knights opened the season with a 2-1 overtime win over Caldwell and a 1-0 blanking of Felician at home before picking up the first blemish on their ledger – a 1-0 loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas. The lone win for Saint Rose in 2012 was a 1-0 shutout of the Chargers on Oct. 10, 2012 in Albany.
Â
With the non-conference schedule complete, New Haven will continue Northeast-10 action next week against defending NE-10 Champion Southern New Hampshire. Last season, the Chargers upset the then-No. 15 Penmen, 2-1, on Oct. 20 in Manchester.
