The University of New Haven women's soccer team continues its Northeast-10 schedule this week with a Wednesday visit from Assumption and a Saturday trip to Bentley. The Chargers are 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in NE-10 play.
Â
A win over the Greyhounds on Wednesday would mark the best five-match start in New Haven's 21-year program history; a midweek draw would tie the established record of an .800 winning percentage after five contests for the second-straight season.
Â
A Charger has claimed a Northeast-10 Weekly Award in each of the first two weeks of action this fall. Monica Yanez (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) was selected as NE-10 Player of the Week on Sept. 8 and, most recently, Natasha Purchla (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) was tabbed yesterday as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Â
Yanez leads UNH through four matches with five goals and an assist for 11 total points. Fellow forward Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport) has tallied three goals and two assists thus far in 2013.
Â
Purchla has spent the majority of the team's minutes in goal, earning all four decisions between the posts. The junior owns a 0.81 goals-against average and a .786 save percentage while recording one solo shutout as well as a combined clean sheet shared with Moriah Saidel (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee).
Â
Also unbeaten in 2013, Assumption comes to Kayo Field with a record of 2-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Northeast-10. The Greyhounds, who are venturing away from their home field for the first time, have recorded non-conference wins over NE-10 foes Saint Michael's and Stonehill and began conference action on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Franklin Pierce.
Â
Andrea Bates has netted two of Assumption's five goals, with Emily Hill scoring one in addition to three assists to garner a team-leading five points. Rachel Edgin has served all 309 minutes in goal, recording a 0.58 goals-against average, an .889 save percentage and one shutout.
Â
Bentley, which will travel to Saint Anselm on Wednesday, enters the week at 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference following an overtime loss at Le Moyne to begin NE-10 play. The Falcons have dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to Dowling and earned their first win of the season with a 4-0 triumph over Molloy.
Â
The Falcons' offense has been led by two goals and one assist apiece from Sydney Spiegel and Ana Tantum. Paige Laliberte has logged 142 minutes between the posts – the most among three keepers that have taken the field for Bentley this fall – and owns a 1.27 goals-against average with an .800 save percentage.
Â
The Chargers will play a pair of home matches next week, both of which will be broadcast live in high definition and free of charge on NewHavenChargers.com. Le Moyne visits Kayo Field on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for a 4 p.m. outing, and New Haven entertains Stonehill under the lights at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
