BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team opened up its 2014-15 season with a road win against No. 16 Bloomsburg University on Friday evening. The 82-66 victory marks the first New Haven victory over a nationally-ranked team since the 2008 season when it beat then-No. 10 Holy Family. New Haven never trailed their opponent in a contest that saw the advantage expand to as many as 23 points late in the second half.
Friday night was the season opener for both teams.

Aquillin Hayes (Harlem, N.Y./Wings Academy) led the Blue and Gold with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She also added three assists, two blocks and a steal in her 34 minutes of play.
Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) put up 17 points to go along with six rebounds.
Bria Moore (West Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) scored six points with two assists and two rebounds,
Elizabeth Cruso (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) netted five points and grabbed a steal and lastly
Rykema Stone (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) score four points and recorded two rebounds.

The Chargers got 25 points from their bench as
Ashley LeBlanc (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) netted 10 points with seven boards and
Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) put up eight points of with six rebounds and two steals. In her first game with the Chargers,
Sade King (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon / Hampton University) pitched in with seven points.
The Chargers shot a remarkable 55.6 percent from the floor and connected on 3-of-9 three-point attempts. UNH missed just three free throws with 22 attempts. New Haven controlled the boards by a 42-31 advantage as well.

For the Huskies, Adreana Sadowski led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Jocelyn Ford and Taylor Maldonado scored 10 apiece. Bloomsburg shot 36.1 percent from the field, 14.3 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the charity stripe. The Huskies turned the ball over 12 times, while forcing 22 UNH turnovers.
New Haven hit the first basket of the game and lead 37-27 at halftime. In the second half, Moore connect on traditional three-point play and the Chargers lead ballooned to 78-55 with 2:56 remaining. The Huskies scored 11 of the game's final 15 points to cut the UNH lead to 16 as time expired.
