The Chargers posted three sacks on the afternoon, one from each Dave Calderon (Neptune, N.J./Neptune), David Nooks (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys & Girls / Lackawanna College) and Michael Intrieri (Westerly, R.I./Westerly / Dean College). Rookie Stefano Bicknese (Somers, N.Y./Somers / USMAPS) intercepted his first collegiate pass and returned it 21 yards.

After forcing a Pioneer punt on the game's opening series, the Blue and Gold marked the entire length of the field to grab an early 7-0 lead. The highlight of the scoring series came from Thomas who broke through the middle of the line and shed a pair of tacklers on his way to a 59-yard touchdown run. His first career touchdown capped a five-play, 99-yard drive with 8:58 left in the first quarter.

The Pioneers answered immediately with a massive 13-play, 66-yard drive which concluded with a Steven Laurino 2-yard touchdown scamper with 4:50 left in the first. LIU Post stopped the Chargers with a three-and-out on their next offensive series and took its first lead with 31 seconds left in the opening stanza. A Karsten Viste 36-yard field goal gave the Pioneers a 10-7 lead as time expired on the first quarter.

With the first possession of the second quarter, a Bradley attempt over the middle was intercepted by the Pioneers who immediately found themselves in UNH territory at the 37-yard line. Four plays later, LIU Post capitalized with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Laurino to Kamron Palmer to give the Pioneers a 10-point lead with 12:24 left in the first half.

After an 18-yard kickoff return by Headen, New Haven began its longest scoring drive of the game. Officer took a majority of the load during the series with seven carries and the eventual touchdown carry from one-yard out. In total, the drive went 79 yards on 14 plays and took nearly six minutes off the clock. The Chargers trailed 17-14 with 6:32 on the clock.

Both teams were unsuccessful on a pair of offensive series to close the opening half and LIU Post held a 17-14 advantage at the break.

The Chargers were stalemated on the first series of the second half, while Bicknese halted the Pioneers first drive of the second half. The freshman picked off Laurino's pass at New Haven's own 31-yard line and returned it 21 yards to setup 1st-and-10 inside Pioneer territory with 11:20 on the clock.

Bradley took over the series and eventually punched in the go-ahead touchdown from the 1-yard line. The senior quarterback went 5-for-7 for 42 yards during the 8-play, 48-yard drive.

New Haven's defense got the biggest stop of the afternoon on LIU Post's next offensive series. After forcing the Pioneers to go three-and-out, Jordan Dunn (Edison, N.J./Edison) broke through the Pioneers punt protection and blocked New Haven's first kick of the 2014 season. The ball bounced back into Pioneer territory and Nigel Davis (Williamsville, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate Institute) took it the remaining 10 yards for a touchdown. After the extra point, the Chargers held a 27-17 lead with 5:59 left in the third quarter.

LIU Post then began the game's longest drive and went 70 yards on 15 plays to bring the Charges back within three. Laurino concluded the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run with 1:17 left in the third.

The Blue and Gold controlled possession as the end of the third quarter came and worked their way include the Pioneers red-zone on a Bradley pass to Headen. After working down to the LIU Post 11-yard line, Anthony Greenfield (Bloomfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic / Wagner) connected on a 28-yard field goal to put the Chargers ahead 30-24 with 12:24 left.

New Haven's defense again stepped up on the next series by forcing a Pioneer punt after the drive halted on six plays. After rain began to fall more steadily, the punter mishandled the wet ball and ended up falling on the loose ball at the Pioneers own 8-yard line. With four short plays, the Chargers were held scoreless as the field goal attempt hit the left upright with 9:13 left to play.

LIU Post took advantage of a short defensive rest for the Chargers and regained the lead with a 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive with Laurino capped with a 20-yard pass to Shane Hubbard with 4:36 left.

On New Haven's ensuing possession, the Chargers took the lead back with a 9-play, 67-yard drive. Bradley, Officer and Thomas combined for a majority of the drive which eventually would face 4th-and-goal from the LIU Post 3-yard line. Greenfield then split the uprights from 20-yard out to regain the lead, 33-31, with 1:46 left on the clock.

The Pioneers answered with the game's final scoring drive. Laurino orchestrated a 9-play, 55-yard drive with he ended with a 1-yard touchdown run with 13 seconds left. The extra point gave the Pioneers a 38-33 victory.

The loss was New Haven's second by five points in as many weeks.
