WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Junior quarterback Ajee Patterson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) finished with 200-plus yards for the third-straight game and the fifth time in 2015 as he led the University of New Haven football team in a 28-14 Northeast-10 victory over Stonehill on Saturday at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. New Haven improves to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the Northeast-10, while Stonehill falls to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the NE-10.
Patterson closed out his fourth start of the season with 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the air, while also running for 14 yards. Overall, the junior playmaker finished 24-of-36 in attempts, with his longest of the game a 40-yard pass to Ty Headen (Newark, N.J./American History) on the opening drive of the game.
Headen was Patterson's primary target in the air, finishing with nine completions for a season-high 106 yards. Overall, eight different Chargers found themselves on Patterson's hit list with Rishawn Harris (Springfield, Mass./Putnam Vocational Technical Academy) and Devin Martin (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) among the leaders with five and four catches, respectively. Harris finished the game with 64 yards, while Martin added 41. In addition to Headen's touchdown, Tyler Hill (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph Collegiate) also scored for the Chargers on a two-yard completion, his only catch of the day.
On the ground, New Haven was led by junior running back Andre Anderson (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) who creeped closer to the top-10 in school history in total rushing yards as he finished with 65 yards on 11 carries, without a rush for loss yards. Anderson also scored twice, which gives him 20 touchdowns for his career, tying Victory Jones for fifth all-time in school history.
Joining Anderson in leading the ground assault was Trevor Officer (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) who finished with 37 yards on 12 carries and Lemar Thomas (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) who chipped in 11 yards on four attempts.
Defensively, the Chargers were led by senior linebacker Tyler Condit (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) who finished his third-straight game and sixth of the season with double figure tackles, leading all players in the game with 14 total tackles. Matt Zakrzewski (Traverse City, Mich./Saint Francis / Indiana) finished just behind Condit with 11 stops, including six solo tackles.
FIRST QUARTER NOTES
· The Chargers marched 72 yards in the opening drive of the game to open up the scoring with a five-yard rush from Andre Anderson (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) for his first of two touchdowns on the day. Prior to Anderson scoring, Ajee Patterson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) completed four of his five pass attempts, including a 40-yard connection with Ty Headen (Newark, N.J./American History) that set up the scoring play.
· After forcing Stonehill to three-and-out scenarios on its first two drives, the Chargers went ahead by two touchdowns with just under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Patterson capped off a 12-play, 59-yard drive with a two-yard connection to Tyler Hill (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph Collegiate).
· Overall for the first quarter, Patterson finished 8-of-13 for 112 yard and a touchdown, with Devin Martin (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) his primary target. Martin finished with three catches for 20 yards, including a 12-yard completion on the second play of the second scoring drive.
· On the ground, Trevor Officer (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led the Charge with six attempts for 19 yards. Overall as a rushing corps, the Chargers finished without losing a yard in 10 carries.
SECOND QUARTER NOTES
· After gaining possession on a missed field goal with 11 minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Chargers would score again, running their lead to 21-0 before the half would expire. The third scoring possession for New Haven went a total of 74 yards on 10 plays with Patterson's second touchdown completion of the game coming to Ty Headen (Newark, N.J./American History) for a three-yard score.
· Patterson finished the second quarter completing all but one of his eight pass attempts for a total of 91 yards. His longest completion of the quarter was a 28-yard pass to Rishawn Harris (Springfield, Mass./Putnam Vocational Technical Academy), while he also partnered up with Devin Martin (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) for a 21-yard gain.
· On the ground, Andre Anderson (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) led the Chargers as he gained 15 yards on three carries.
· Defensively, Matt Olivo (Carteret, N.J./Saint Joseph) led New Haven in the second quarter with three tackles, while Tyler Condit (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) added a pair as he closed out the first half with six tackles.
THIRD QUARTER NOTES
· New Haven completed just one drive in a scoreless third quarter, with that drive lasting 4:29 and consisting of 12 plays and 42 yards. In that drive, Ajee Patterson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) finished 3-of-6 for 22 yards with his longest completion a 13-yard pass to Deejay White.
· On the ground, Lemar Thomas (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack), Trevor Officer (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) and Andre Anderson (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) all finished with seven net yards as New Haven again finished without losing a yard, this time on six total carries.
· Defensively, Matt Zakrzewski (Traverse City, Mich./Saint Francis / Indiana) led the Chargers with five tackles, three of which were solo stops, while Tyler Condit (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) chipped in four tackles, pushing his total for the game into double digits.
FOURTH QUARTER NOTES
· New Haven matched the Skyhawks first score of the game with one on its next drive, completing a 12-play, 66-yard drive with a four-yard rushing touchdown from Andre Anderson (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse). The majority of the yardage on the drive came in the air as Ajee Patterson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) completed all but one of seven pass attempts in the drive, for a total of 36 yards.
· Overall in the final quarter, Patterson converted seven of his nine pass attempts for 38 yards. His primary target came in the fashion of Rishawn Harris (Springfield, Mass./Putnam Vocational Technical Academy) who finished with 22 yards on three completions.
· On the ground, Andre Anderson (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) and Trevor Officer (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) each finished with four carries with Anderson leading the duo with 31 yards. Officer added 12 net yards.
· Defensively, Tyler Condit (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) led the Chargers with four tackles, while Mark Clements (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest / Worcester Academy), Matt Olivo (Carteret, N.J./Saint Joseph) and Stefano Bicknese (Somers, N.Y./Somers / USMAPS) each finished with a pair of stops.
