PHILADELPHIA –
Joshua Guddemi (Nottingham, England/Derby) scored a career-high 12 points, but the University of New Haven men's basketball team was upended by the Philadelphia University Rams 61-50 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.
Â
With the win, Philadelphia is 6-1. New Haven falls to 1-4.
Â
In addition to his personal best in points, Guddemi also led the Blue and Gold and had a career-high with eight rebounds.
Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn./Capital Preparatory Magnet) had a team-high 15 points and

Â
Defense ruled the first half as neither team shot better than 34-percent in the first half. The Chargers kept the game close, holding it to a six-point contest for the majority of the frame before a Hunt layup with four seconds left in the period cut the Philadelphia lead to 26-22 entering halftime.
Â
The close battle continued into the second half as New Haven continued to apply pressure. A three-pointer by Hunt put him into double figures and closed the gap to 32-30 just more than six minutes into the stanza. Neither team led by more than six points for the first 13 minutes of the frame before a Rams' basket on a tip-in extended their lead to 47-39 with 7:02 remaining. The Chargers were able to close the gap to five on a couple of occasions before Philadelphia pulled away down the stretch.
Â
New Haven returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2 when cross-town rival Southern Connecticut State comes to Charger Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
