Tough Shooting Second Half Hinders Women's Basketball at Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) recorded her second double-double of the season including a career-high 14 rebounds, but the University of New Haven women's basketball team fell to the Georgian Court Lions 86-74 in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Lions are now 2-9. The Chargers are 5-5.

Kerr led four New Haven players with 18 points. Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) scored 13 points, her 10th consecutive game in double figures. Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) had 12 points and nine rebounds with Quana Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) adding 11 points. India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) contributed with nine points and eight rebounds.

The two teams scored at will in the first half as both teams eclipsed the 20 point mark in each of the first two quarters as the Lions took a 44-43 lead at halftime. A trio of Chargers paced the squad way as Kerr, Smith and Dotson each netted nine points in the half with Kerr grabbing seven rebounds.

The third period saw New Haven struggle from the floor, as a 3-for-19 shooting performance allowed the Lions to open a 61-51 lead by the end of the quarter. After GCU scored the first basket of the fourth, the Blue and Gold went on a 6-0 run to slice the advantage to 63-57. That was as close as New Haven would get, however, as Georgian Court made 13-of-16 at the free throw line in the final period to pull away.

The Chargers are now off until New Year's Eve when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to face Saint Anselm in a non-conference game on Dec. 31 at 2:00 p.m.
