Bourke Scores 22 in Men's Basketball Road Loss at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Redshirt-freshman guard Michael Bourke (South Orange, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) scored 20-plus points for the second straight game leading the University of New Haven men's basketball team in a 70-59 loss on the road against the Pace Setters on Saturday. New Haven falls to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the Northeast-10, while Pace improves to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the NE-10.

Bourke led a pair of Chargers in double figures with 22 points, 13 of which came in the first half. For the game, he finished 6-of-14 from the field with four of those field goals from outside the three point arc where he was 4-of-8. Bourke also finished 6-of-6 at the free throw line.

Joining Bourke in double figures was junior guard Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) who finished with 14 points, having now scored in double figures in all five games he has played in this season. From the field, Mosely finished 5-of-14 with a pair of three pointers, while he also made both of his free throw attempts.

Sophomore Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) followed Bourke and Mosley with nine points while senior Samir McDaniels (Roxbury, Mass./New Mission) added six and sophomore Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn./Capital Preparatory Magnet) chipped in five. As a team, New Haven shot 36 percent from the floor (18-of-50), while they made 11-of-29 three point attempts for 37.9 percent. The Chargers also converted 12-of-15 attempts at the free throw line.

New Haven also trailed in the battle of the boards where they combined for 26 total rebounds, compared to 33 for the Setters. Leading New Haven in the rebounding efforts was senior Joshua Guddemi (Nottingham, England/Derby) who finished with eight boards, while McDaniel added six. The eight rebounds for Guddemi ties his season-high which he has set in each of the last three games. Guddemi also joined McDaniels in leading the Chargers with three assists.

The Chargers return to the hardwood on Wednesday night when they travel to Concordia for the Sixth Annual Jimmy Sayegh Game honoring the late Concordia men's basketball student-athlete who passed away after a battle with cancer in 2010. New Haven and Concordia are schedule for an 8:00 p.m. tip at the Meyer Athletic Center.
