WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division contest to The College of Saint Rose by a score of 47-36.
UNH falls to 12-10 overall and 7-9 in Northeast-10 Conference play after the loss. With the victory, the Golden Knights improved to 7-16 overall and .5-11 in the NE-10
Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) led the way for the Chargers with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) totaled 13 rebounds with six points and five assists. Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) chipped in nine points and Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn./Capital Preparatory Magnet) added eight.
Jamaal Greenwood finished with 13 points while adding three assists. Chris Dorgler registered 10 points and nine rebounds on the day for Saint Rose.
As a team, New Haven shot 29.2 percent from the floor, 21.4 percent from three-point range and 33.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Chargers out-rebounded Saint Rose 36-33, but the Golden Knights held a 14-5 lead in points off turnovers.
The first half saw Saint Rose jump out to a 15-point advantage eight minutes in and the Chargers never recovered. The Golden Knights held on to the large lead for a majoirty of the first half, while a 7-0 run late by the Chargers brought the lead back within single digits in the final minute. A Jack Jones three-pointer with 10 second left gave the Golden Knights an 11-point halftime lead, 31-20.
Mosley opened scoring in the second half with a long jumper to cut the deficit back to single digits. With UNH scoring five of the next seven points, the lead was cut to 33-25 at the 16:50 mark. The Chargers managed to keep the lead within 10 until the final 30-seconds when the Golden Knights made 3-of-5 from the free throw line.
The Blue and Gold are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 10 when Le Moyne visits Charger Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
