MELBOURNE, Fla. - The nationally-ranked No. 6 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team defeated No. 8 LIU Post Saturday afternoon on the campus of Florida Institute of Technology. The Chargers scored eight of the game's final 11 goals to turn a three-point halftime deficit into the program's second ever victory over the Pioneers.
The Chargers improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Pioneers drop to 3-2 this year.
Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) led the team with three goals, all in the final 11 minutes of the non-conference matchup.
Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and
Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) both finished with two goals and an assist, while
Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) chipped in with two goals.
Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and
Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) rounded out scoring with one goal apiece. Campbell added five draw controls, one caused turnovers and one ground ball. Belanger and O'Brien each tallied three ground balls.

Marissa McDermott (Longmeadow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) recorded her second win of the season between the posts.
New Haven led LIU Post 24-16 in shots and 13-12 in ground balls. The Pioneers held an 8-4 lead in saves and a 12-9 lead in draw controls.
LIU Post jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes Saturday afternoon. Campbell put the Chargers on the scoreboard with 6:02 left in the first with a shot from O'Brien. Nearly three minutes later, the Pioneers when ahead 4-1. The Chargers and Pioneers exchanged goals in the final two minutes and the Chargers trailed 5-2 at halftime.
Campbell started the New Haven rally in the second half with her second of the game just 1:07 into the period. The Pioneers scored their own with 27:21 left and then the Chargers began to rally. Belanger sparked a 4-0 UNH run which put the Chargers ahead 7-6 on an Ackland goal at the 20:03 mark. The teams again exchanged goals until Szymanski scored a trio of unassisted goals starting with 10:26 on the clock. Her third of the game put the Chargers ahead 11-8 with 4:56 remaining. LIU Post added its final goal with 1:47 left to bring the score to its final 11-9 mark.
The Blue and Gold are back in action on Monday, March 16 when it plays Florida Institute of Technology in another non-conference game. Opening draw in Melbourne is set for 7 p.m.
