MANCHESTER, N.H. – The University of New Haven men's basketball team played a tight-fought first half before being upended by the Southern New Hampshire Penmen 73-55 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Penmen are 11-8 overall with a 7-5 record in conference. The Chargers fall to 6-12 and are 3-9 in the NE-10.

Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) led New Haven with 13 points. Michael Bourke (South Orange, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) and Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) also scored in double figures, netting 11 and 10 respectively. Jayson Cethoute (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) hit all six of his free throw attempts en route to tallying a career-high 10 points.

The two teams battled basket-for-basket in the first half with neither squad holding more than a six point lead. Trailing 15-9 just past the midway point in the frame, the Chargers went on an 11-4 run during the next four minutes to take a 20-19 lead on a Bourke layup at the 5:56 mark. The Penmen went on a push of their own to go back up 31-26 with 1:40 to play. Buckets by Bourke and Mosley closed out the half as New Haven pulled to 31-30 entering halftime.

In the second half, the teams traded layups to start the stanza before Southern New Hampshire began to steadily pull away.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 26 when they travel to Colchester, Vt. to face the St. Michael's Purple Knights in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
