Women's Basketball Battles Before Falling to Bentley

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) netted 25 points, extending her consecutive game double-figure scoring streak to 14, but the University of New Haven women's basketball team fell to the Bentley Falcons 84-72 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Bentley is now 12-2 with a 6-2 record in the NE-10. New Haven is 6-8 with a 2-6 mark in conference.

In addition to Bradford's game-high total, Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) tied a career-best with 21 points. India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) recorded her second double-double of the season behind a career-best 13 points and 10 rebounds.

For the game, New Haven held a 43-39 advantage in rebounds including a 22-19 edge on the offensive glass.

The Chargers battled the Falcons evenly for the majority of the game with a pair of runs accounting for the difference. New Haven led 15-13 with just more than three minutes to go in the first quarter when Bentley went on a 17-5 run to take a 30-20 advantage with the 8:22 mark of the second period. Undaunted, the Chargers battled back, cutting the lead to 40-36 at halftime.

Opening the third quarter, the Blue and Gold scored the first two baskets to knot the contest at 40-40. The Falcons used another run, this one a 16-7 spurt in the final five minutes of the stanza to take a 64-51 lead entering the fourth.

New Haven had another burst in reserve, scoring the first nine points of the fourth period to cut the lead to 64-60 in a matter of just 1:42. Bentley pulled away down the stretch, however, hitting 9-of-10 free throws in the frame.

The Chargers now head on the road for their next two games starting with a Northeast-10 Conference battle with the Stonehill Skyhawks on Tuesday, Jan. 12. Tipoff at Merkert Gymnasium in North Easton, Mass. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
