WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Danny Upchurch (Bridgeport, Conn./Notre Dame Catholic) scored a game-high 20 points, 15 of them in the second half as the University of New Haven men's basketball team delivered a 65-59 victory against the Pace Setters in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Sunday afternoon. With the win, New Haven is now 4-4 overall and is 2-3 in the NE10
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Â Â Â Â Â In addition to his 20 points, Upchurch also had four assists.
- Â Â Â Â Â Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) also scored in double figures with 12 points.
- Â Â Â Â Â Joseph Doganiero (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) had a career-high nine points, hitting on 3-for-4 shots from beyond the arc.
- Â Â Â Â Â Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) and Mihailo Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) each had 10 rebounds for the Chargers.
- Â Â Â Â Â The Blue and Gold held a slight edge in the game on the boards, 40-37.
FIRST HALF NOTES:
- Â Â Â Â Â The Chargers jumped out to a quick 14-6 just less than six minutes into the game with Bailey accounting for seven of the points.
- Â Â Â Â Â The Setters responded, outscoring New Haven 23-10 during the next 11 minutes, taking a 29-24 lead on a Victor Jusino layup with 2:35 remaining in the period.
- Â Â Â Â Â The Blue and Gold got a lift off the bench as a layup by Jacob Pupavac (Geelong, Australia/Belmont) and back-to-back three-pointers by Doganiero accounted for an 8-0 run, allowing the Chargers to take a 32-29 lead into halftime.Â
SECOND HALF NOTES:
- Â Â Â Â Â Pace came out of the locker room strong, using an early 12-0 run to take a 46-41 lead with 12:19 left in the period.
- Â Â Â Â Â With Pace leading 52-48, Upchurch went on a tear, scoring 10 of New Haven's final 17 points. He went 4-for-4 from the field in the final 4:07 to lead the Chargers comeback.
- Â Â Â Â Â Michael Bourke (South Orange, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) also had six points in the game-closing 17-7 run. Â

New Haven continues a series of five straight home games on Thursday, December 8 when it welcomes fellow Nutmeg state rival Post University to Charger Gym.
