MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of New Haven softball closed the Snowbird Freezeout with a pitchers' duel, falling to the West Chester Golden Rams 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Â
West Chester got the offense started in the second inning, plating a run on an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
From there, the pitching took over as both starters were excellent in the circle.
Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) delivered five innings allowing five hits and just the one unearned run. She did not walk a batter and struck out three. Unfortunately for the Chargers, her opposite number was slightly better as Amanda Houck tossed a complete game shutout, surrendering four hits, not walking a batter and striking out four.
Â
West Chester would add an insurance run in the sixth to cement the final score.
Â
The Chargers now return home and will have three weeks off before traveling to Oakdale, N.Y. to take on Dowling in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
