NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – A late rally from the University of New Haven men's soccer team fell short as the Chargers were dealt a 2-1 setback at the hands of the Merrimack Warriors on Saturday evening. New Haven is now 3-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the NE-10.
Â
The Warriors opened the scoring 20 second into the match and tallied again late in the frame to take a 2-0 lead.
Â
The match remained that way until the 81st minute when
Pablo Perez (Medellin, Columbia/West Haven) delivered a free kick into the box that was headed home by
Mason Rivera (Preston, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) for his second goal of the season to slice the lead to 2-1. Three minutes later, the Chargers were attacking again as Perez struck, but his shot was blocked, helping the Warriors to hold on.
Â
Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made 11 saves for the Blue and Gold in the contest.
Â
New Haven is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when it travels to Southern Connecticut State for a Northeast-10 Conference match. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
