MANCHESTER, N.H. – Michael Bourke (South Orange, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) and Mihailo Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) scored in double figures, but the University of New Haven men's basketball team was downed 88-57 by the Saint Anselm Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers are now 11-9 on the season overall and 6-8 in the NE10.
A tight game early, neither team held more than a five point lead in the opening nine minutes with Saint Anselm opening an 18-13 edge on a pair of free throws at the 11:16 mark. After a Michael Bourke (South Orange, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) three-pointer, his second of the half, cut the lead to 22-19 with 7:20 left, the Hawks went on a 19-2 run, taking a 41-21 advantage with 2:18 to go in the half before holding a 47-25 lead at halftime
Early in the second half, Mihailo Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) started to find his shot, making the first two Chargers baskets of the frame. As the Hawks started to pull away, New Haven worked to keep it close at the line, connecting on 9-of-12 shots at the charity stripe in the stanza as the two teams played evenly through the final seven minutes.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Bourke led the Chargers with 14 points. Vasic was also in double figures, scoring 12.
- Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) had his ninth double-figure rebounding game of the season, pulling in 13 boards.
- The New Haven bench outscored Saint Anselm 13-11.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- Bourke led the Chargers with 10 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from the field including a pair of three-pointers.
- Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) had five rebounds in the frame to lead New Haven.
SECOND HALF NOTES
- Vasic scored eight of his points after intermission, shooting 6-for-8 for the game overall.
- Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) contributed five points and two rebounds in the frame.
- Felizor had eight rebounds after halftime.
