Stock Drills Two Field Goals, Chargers Drop Road Decision at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Haven football team dropped its second Northeast-10 conference game of the season, on the road to the Assumption Greyhounds 41-6 in a rematch of the first ever football game at Assumption, 50 years ago to the day.

Leading the Chargers on the afternoon was senior wide receiver Devin Martin (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) who completed five catches for 81 total yards. Included in that haul was a 46-yard completion in the second quarter which is the longest play allowed by the Assumption defense this season.

Overall, New Haven finished with 242 total yards, with 200 of those coming in the passing game. Senior quarterback Ajee Patterson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) finished his day with 20 completions on 40 attempts. Among his other targets was senior Collin Hill (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) who caught six passes for 45 yards and junior Justin White (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) who completed four receptions for 25 yards.

The Chargers running game mustered just 42 yards total on the day, led by sophomore Ryan McCarthy (Montclair, N.J./Bergen Catholic) who finished 11 attempts with 33 total yards. Chis Liggio followed him with 19 yards on six attempts, while he also caught a pair of passes for 19 yards.

Defensively, New Haven was led by junior Jordan Francklin (Queens, N.Y./Holy Cross) who finished with nine total tackles. Following his was Jeremiah McNear (Perth Amboy, N.J./Perth Amboy) who recorded eight total stops, seven of which were solo tackles. Nigel Davis (Williamsville, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate Institute) and Nicholas Sutton (Pennsville, N.J.) rounded out the leaders defensively with seven and six tackles, respectively. Sutton also added a pair of sacks, one of which resulted in a 13 yard loss for the Greyhounds.  

HOW THE CHARGERS SCORED

·        New Haven's first points of the day came as time expired in the first half as Stock drilled his first field goal of the day through the middle from 37 yards out. The key play in the drive that set up the field goal opportunity was the longest play of the season given up by the Greyhounds, a 46-yard completion from Patterson to Martin.

·        Stock would again provide put points on the board, when he sailed his second field goal of the day through the uprights from 23 yards out. Overall, the second scoring drive of the day for the Chargers lasted six-and-a-half minutes and included 16 total plays for 85 yards. During the drive, Patterson had a series of five-straight completions, three of which went for 10 yards, including the longest of the drive, a 16-yard reception by tight end Jacob Lareau.
