Bentley Stuns Women's Soccer In Season Finale, 2-1 (OT)

WALTHAN, Mass. – The University of New Haven women's soccer season came to a close at Bentley on Saturday afternoon as Falcons stunned the Chargers, 2-1 in a close Northeast-10 overtime defeat.

New Haven got off to a quick offensive start with a shot by sophomore Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille) that was blocked, three corner kicks, and a shot on goal by junior Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), however senior Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial) broke through for the Chargers in the 26th minute, putting in a shot assisted by sophomore Tana Tufts (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne). The New Haven defense stood tall for the remainder of the half, stopping four Falcon shots in the final seven minutes of the first frame, including a shot on goal saved by freshman keeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre) just before the buzzer.

Bentley leveled the match quickly into the second stanza, dribbling around the defense and putting in a shot to the lower left corner. New Haven tallied five shots throughout the remainder of the half, three of them on goal in the span of five minutes in the middle of the frame.

After both teams were tied at one, the match headed in to overtime, where Bentley controlled much of the momentum. Morello got the first shot off just one minute in, however Bentley struck three times before converting on the fourth that just banked off the left post and in to close out the match.

For the Chargers, Quigley and Pacapelli led with two shots on goal, while Morello tallied four shots and one shot on goal. In goal, Davis made six saves to add to her season total 45 saves.

New Haven concludes the 2017 season with a 6-8-4 record and 3-7-4 mark in the NE10.
