MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of New Haven softball team completed the Snowbird Freezeout, splitting its games on the final day of play, falling to West Chester 4-0 before downing Clarion 6-0 on Sunday. New Haven ended the event with a 5-1 record.

West Chester 4, New Haven 0
An Emily Maseth grand slam accounted for all the of the runs in the game as the West Chester Golden Rams came away with a 4-0 win in the opening game of the day.

New Haven had a couple of early chances, initially putting runners on first and second with one out in the second inning before missing out on a golden opportunity in the third when
Julie Devlin (Baldwin, N.Y./Northwood School) singled and
Catherine Vaughan (Commack, N.Y./Hauppauge) doubled to open the inning. The Chargers were unable to score on either occasion as the game remained 0-0 into the bottom of the fifth.
In that frame,
Kylie Stonebraker (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis High School) was able to get Cat Hammer to strike out to open the inning before three straight singles preceded the home run.
Megan Butts (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) came in and shut down the Golden Rams for the remainder of the contest for the Chargers.

Stonebraker (1-1) took the loss for New Haven. Amanda Houck (2-0) got the win, retiring the final 15 batters she faced.

Alycia Marsello (North Kingstown, R.I/Prout) and
Sierra Whitlock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) each homered and
Alyssa Monteverde (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) delivered her second shutout of the season as the Chargers topped the Golden Eagles.

New Haven got on the board to open the scoring in the second inning when Marsello clocked her first homer of the season over the leftfield wall for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Tori Scheibe reached second on a fielding error and came in to score on a
Gabby DeLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) single to make it 2-0.

In the third,
Catherine Vaughan (Commack, N.Y./Hauppauge) walked and stole second. Whitlock came up and drove her first career home run out to right, giving the Blue and Gold a 4-0 edge. The Chargers tacked on two more runs in the fifth as with two outs,
Taylor Luzzi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) singled and was brought home on a Marsello double.
Alexandria Cunkle (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) followed with a single, plating Marsello to make it 6-0.

In the circle, Monetverde (2-0) struck out a career-high nine batters in delivering her second straight complete game shutout.
