YAPHANK, N.Y. – Megan Butts (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) pitched an eight-inning complete game as the University of New Haven softball team downed the LIU Post Pioneers 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The Pioneers took game one 8-3.
Butts allowed one run on seven hits, walking just one and striking out four in authoring her fourth complete game in as many starts. Remaining composed, she did her best work of the game in the sixth inning, battling out of a bases loaded jam, keeping the score tied at 1-1.
Four Chargers had a multi-hit day. Julie Devlin (Baldwin, N.Y./Northwood School), Taylor Luzzi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) and Catherine Vaughan (Commack, N.Y./Hauppauge) each had three hits during the twinbill while Sierra Whitlock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) had two.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

- The Chargers got on the board in the top of the fifth as Erin Stever (Parish, N.Y./Altmar Parish Williamstown) was hit by a pitch leading off the inning, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a groundout. Whitlock came to the plate and laced a double to centerfield to plate the runner.
- After the Pioneers scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, New Haven responded with a pair of tallies in the sixth. With one out, Luzzi singled and moved to third on a Devlin double. Stever followed with an RBI single to center, bringing home Luzzi and moving Devlin to third. Alexandria Cunkle (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) stood in as a pinch-hitter and grounded out, bringing home Devlin to cut the lead to 8-3.
