WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Seniors accounted for 14 of the No. 10 New Haven women's lacrosse team's 18 goals as the Chargers won their regular season finale, 18-11 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Senior Day from Kayo Field.
After trading the first six goals of the game, Bentley scored three in a row to take a 6-3 lead just before the midway mark of the first half. The Blue and Gold followed it up with five in a row of its own, taking an 8-6 edge. After the Falcons tied it, New Haven scored once more with 35 second left before halftime, holding a slim 9-8 lead at the break.
The Chargers started the second half well, scoring five of the first seven goals to open a 14-10 advantage. After the Falcons pulled to 14-11 with just over 14 minutes remaining, New Haven shut the door, tallying the final four goals of the contest.
Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) led the Blue and Gold, tying a career-high with six goals. Kendall Cietek (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) had five, pushing her past the 50-goal mark for the season. Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) also had a hat trick with three shots finding the back of the net. Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) played a key role in the offense, assisting on five of the goals.
Prior to the game, Belanger, Cietek, O'Brien, Hannah Johnson (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), Meredith Michel (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Alicia Mortali (Branford, Conn./Branford) were honored in a Senior Day ceremony for their service to the women's lacrosse program.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The two teams traded the first six goals of the game through the opening seven minutes with Reh scoring twice, sandwiching Cietek's 50th goal the season.
- Bentley followed with three goals in a row, taking a 6-3 lead with 16:42 left in the opening frame.
- New Haven responded, tallying the next five goals, started by one from Belanger and featuring two scores each from Cietek and O'Brien to take an 8-6 lead at the 9:20 mark.
- The Falcons scored twice to tie the game at 8-8 before Belanger netted her second of the game off a feed from Mazliah with 35 seconds before halftime as New Haven took a 9-8 lead into the break.
- Coming out of halftime, the Chargers started to pull away, scoring five of the first seven goals of the second period. O'Brien scored twice in the span with Galler, Cietek and Rattigan each finding the back of the net once as the Blue and Gold took a 14-10 lead.
- After a Bentley goal just past the midway point of the second half, New Haven closed the door on the game, recording the final four goals of the contests. It was all seniors as Belanger recorded her hat trick at the 11:35 mark and two tallies from O'Brien bookended a Cietek score.
NOTABLE
- Michel picked up a ground ball midway through the second half, her 100th career scoop.
- Michel and Johnson each played in their 75th career games, tying Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Ashley Ferrandiz for second on the all-time New Haven list. Kathryn Campbell holds the record at 76. It was also the 75th career start for Michel, one away from Campbell's program record.
- Cietek now has 54 goals for the year, the eighth highest single-season total in program history and the first time a New Haven player has reached the half century mark since 2015.

New Haven clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship and will host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, May 3 against the sixth-seeded Assumption Greyhounds. Opening draw from Kayo Field is slated for 7:00 p.m.
