Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early Purple Knight Goal Spoils Women's Soccer, 1-0

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's scored a goal in the third minute of action that would hold up throughout the entirety of the match as the University of New Haven Women's soccer team was taken down by the Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match, 1-0.

Despite the early goal, the Chargers dominated the offensive end for the full 90 minutes, edging out the Purple Knights in the shots category, 21-9. Seniors Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial) and Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) had two shots on goal each for New Haven.

The Purple Knights took the contest's first shot, saved by junior keeper Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly). Saint Michael's midfielder Taryn Manna rebounded the save and tapped a goal in to the right side. The goal would prove to be the game-winner for the Purple Knights, holding up for the remaining 87 minutes.

The Chargers best opportunity came early in the first half, when Morgan and Quigley fired back-to-back shots that were saved by the Saint Michael's keeper. In the second half, Wolonsavich kept the match within one goal with two straight saves early in the later frame.

With the tough loss, the Chargers fall to 3-1-2 overall and 0-1-2 in the NE10.

New Haven will next face off against Pace for a match at Kayo Field. The NE10 contest is slated to kick off at 4:00 pm. For fans who are unable to attend the game, live stats and video will be available on the Charger Sports Network.
