WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) faced 16 shots on goal and made 11 stops as the University of New Haven field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision on the road at Assumption on Halloween night.
The Chargers mustered just one shot in the contest, that coming in the second period from defender Morgan McCarty (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) and forcing the Greyhounds Kolby Burger to make a defensive save to keep the clean sheet in order. Both teams would play scoreless through the first 25 minutes of action with Assumption breaking that draw in the 27th minute with a goal from Deidre Burchill. The Greyhounds would score once more before the break, while adding three more tallies in the second half for the final margin.
Defensively, New Haven was successful in killing all 12 of the penalty corners faced against Assumption, however the Chargers were unable to set themselves up with a corner opportunity through the full 70 minutes of action.
The Chargers will close out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday when they welcome the American International Yellow Jackets for a battle under the lights on DellaCamera Stadium. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. and for fans unable to attend, live stats and live video will be available on NewHavenChargers.com.
