WEST HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time in six seasons, the University of New Haven football team is dancing! The Chargers earned one of seven bids from Super Region One for the 2018 NCAA Division II Championship and as the No. 6 seed will travel to West Chester for a date with the second seeded Golden Rams. Kick off against the Golden Rams is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at John A. Farrell Stadium.
Overall, New Haven makes its seventh appearance in the national tournament field and first since back-to-back showings in 2011 and 2012. The Chargers hold an 8-6 record in the postseason championship.
After getting stopped at the one yard line on the final play of the game against LIU Post on Saturday, the Chargers closed out the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and an 8-1 record regionally and in the Northeast-10.
Leading the Blue and Gold is senior quarterback Ajee Patterson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) who with a 64 percent completion average has amassed 2,342 yards and 26 touchdowns. In the regular season finale at LIU Post, Patterson broke the all-time passing yardage record. Joining Patterson in leading the team is graduate receiver Ju'An Williams who has 56 completions for 976 yards, while junior Ryan McCarthy (Montclair, N.J./Bergen Catholic) leads the running game with 674 yards on 129 carries.
