WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven volleyball team's run in the NCAA Division II Championship came to an end on Friday night as the top seeded Chargers dropped a four set decision to Holy Family University.
Leading the Blue and Gold in their season finale was a pair of sophomores in outside hitter Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and middle blocker Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) who each finished with nine kills. Among the two leaders, Garden closed out the night with a team-best .438 attack percentage with her nine kills coming on 16 total attempts with a pair of errors. Greathead suffered just a single error, while her nine hammers came on 39 attempts.
Following the sophomore duo on the hitting front was freshmen Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) who each finished with four kills. Among the two rookies, Fera finished without an error with her four kills coming on 25 total attempts.
Defensively, New Haven was led by its senior libero Brianna Mirmina (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) who finished with 18 digs, the only player to register double figures. As a team, the Chargers combined for nine blocks with Finnie leading the way returning five of the Tigers attacks.
The Chargers close out the 2018 campaign with a 26-6 overall record after advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the 13th straight season, hosting the Regional Championship for the second year in a row.
