SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team fell 66-56 on the road on Saturday at Le Moyne. Trailing by two at the half, the Chargers were outscored 24-11 in the third quarter as the Dolphins took control. Junior Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) led the Chargers with 13 points, freshman Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) tallied 12 points and four rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting.
Senior Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) accumulated eight points on 4-of-4 shooting in nine minutes of action off the bench. Sophomore Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) dished out four assists and tallied six points to go with a career-high four steals, while freshman Sydney Richard (Hooksett, N.H./Bradford Christian Academy) scored a career-high six points on 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range. Seniors Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) and Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
Le Moyne shot just over 47 percent for the game (25-for-53), including 45.5 percent (10-for-22) from three-point range, while the Chargers combined for a .426 field goal percentage (23-for-54) and converted four of their nine three-point attempts.
New Haven committed 14 turnovers to Le Moyne's 17, while the Dolphins edged out New Haven 12-11 in points off those miscues. The Dolphins bested New Haven on the boards, 36-27, including 15-11 on the offensive glass, which helped Le Moyne hold a 15-9 edge in second chance points.
QUARTER 1
· New Haven built an early 6-3 lead on four straight points from Wormack and a fast break layup by Cubbage.
· DeBose and Pergola used back-to-back jumpers in the paint to up the lead to 10-5 by the 2:56 mark.
· Wormack later converted a three-point play with a jumper in the paint and drawing a foul. Her ensuing free throw gave New Haven a 13-7 lead, which helped them carry a 13-10 lead into the second quarter after a triple from Le Moyne in the final minute.
QUARTER 2
· After a scoring drought that lasted the first two minutes of the second, Le Moyne used a fastbreak three, then answered a Chargers' basket with another triple to take an 18-17 lead with 5:59 left in the first half.
· Kim Talley (Quakertown, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) quickly answered with a layup, starting a back-and-forth stretch as the two teams answered each other's field goals. DeBose and Luzdali Ocasio (Davenport, Fla./New Hampton) answered Le Moyne buckets with two points each to put New Haven up 23-22 at the 1:48 mark.
· Le Moyne used another three-pointer with 41 seconds left to take a 25-22 lead into the locker room.
· The second quarter featured seven lead changes and two ties.
THIRD QUARTER
· Le Moyne grew the lead to five on two occasions over the first three minutes of the third, as Oge used a layup to cut it to 32-29 at 6:47.
· Le Moyne then ran off seven straight as part of a 9-1 run to build a 41-30 lead at the 4:09 mark.
· A Cubbage jumper and two free throws from Wormack helped trim the deficit to 10, before Le Moyne capped the frame with five straight points off a layup, and a three-pointer with seven seconds left to open up a 49-34 lead entering the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
· The Chargers outscored the Dolphins 22-17 in the fourth and final quarter, but were unable to get any closer than nine.
· Richard drained back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to get within 54-44 at the 6:56 mark.
· DeBose answered a Dolphin bucket with a three-pointer of her own to make it 56-47 with 6:14 remaining.
· The Chargers' deficit grew to 15 once again before Pergola and Wormack used layups to make it 62-51.
· DeBose hit her second three-pointer in as many attempts with 16 seconds remaining to cap the scoring in the 10-point, 66-56 defeat.
The Chargers will return to Charger Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening for a matchup against American International in the team's final game before the holiday break. The game will be broadcast live on the Chargers Sports Network.
