WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team suffered a 52-41 loss against the Pace Setters, (13-11, 9-7 NE10) on Tuesday inside Charger Gymnasium in a Northeast-10 game.
Junior
Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) scored 18 points off 44 percent shooting, her fifth-straight game and 17
th this season in double digit scoring. Freshman
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) also finished with at least ten points in her third-straight game, netting 11 points while shooting 42 percent from the floor. Kerr also finished with a team-high six rebounds, and also had two blocks and two steals in the defeat. Senior
Quana Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) finished out with five points, two assists and two steals in the defeat, while sophomore
Kim Talley (Quakertown, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) had three steals.
FIRST QUARTER NOTES:
- Kerr took command of the floor early, going 3-of-6 from the field while knocking down one three-pointer and both of her free throws to score nine points in the first ten minutes.
- Pace used an 8-0 run to gain a six-point lead, but two Kerr free throws and a three-point play by Smith helped chip back into the Pace lead. After Pace's Geena Rosalbo connected on a three-pointer, Kerr got a pass from Smith and answered with a three-point bucket on the following Charger possession.
- Junior Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) made a jump shot with six minutes remaining in the first frame to gain a 15-14 advantage over the Setters at the end of the first period.
SECOND QUARTER NOTES:
- The Chargers had a tough time getting things going in the second quarter, going ice-cold from the floor in the ten-minute span. New Haven got all four of its points off free throws, with Cubbage going 2-for-2 and Smith and Kerr hitting one each, as New Haven trailed 26-19 at intermission.
- Pace shot 5-of-8 from the field, as Gabriella Rubin went 3-of-4 off the bench with two three-pointers, scoring eight of Pace's 12 points in the quarter.
THIRD QUARTER NOTES:
- Kerr scored twice for New Haven in the first two minutes to get four more points, but Pace stretched the lead, scoring nine-straight points to begin to pull away early.
- Following the Pace run, Pergola heated up from a field with nine straight points for the Chargers, hitting three jump shots on the next three of four New Haven possessions.
FOURTH QUARTER NOTES:
- Smith assisted on a three-pointer by Pergola to open up the fourth quarter for New Haven and Kerr scored next with a jump shot to pull the Chargers back within single digits.
- Down the stretch, New Haven scored on three-straight field goals by Talley, Pergola, and Wormack to cut the game two nine points with two minutes remaining, but Pace closed out the game scoring six-straight to complete the season sweep.
- New Haven shot 55 percent (6-of-11) from the field in the quarter, while Pergola and Kerr combined for nine of 13 Charger points.
