ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 7 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team dropped its first decision of the season, falling to the No. 8 LIU Post Pioneers by a 16-15 final at Disney's Wide World of Sports. The match-up against the Pioneers wrapped up a two-game Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State. The Chargers will return to the Northeast for their next game when they host the Franklin Pierce Ravens for the home opener on Saturday, March 17 with opening draw set for 1:00 p.m.
For the second time this season junior midfielder Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) led the Chargers, scoring five goals, her third time this season scoring five or more and extending her team-lead to 16 total goals. Reh also added an assist and five draw controls.
Joining Reh in completing a hat trick on the afternoon was sophomore Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J. /Jefferson Township ) who finished with three goals. Sophomores Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) each completed a multi-goal game, each finishing with a pair of scores. Jette opened up the days scoring for New Haven, while her second goal came on the Chargers late three-goal rally that spanned the final 5:22 and fell just short of tying the game.
Rounding out the Chargers scoring on the day was freshman Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry), junior Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and senior Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) who all finished with one goal, with Mazliah the final goal of the game which pulled New haven within a single goal after trailing by as many as five goals in the second half. .
Between the pipes for the Chargers, sophomore Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) played the full 60 minutes, suffering her first defeat of the season. Rinsky also posted a season-high 12 saves against the Pioneers.
