COLCHESTER, Vt. – The No. 19 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team (8-5, 5-4) won its fourth-straight match on Friday afternoon, taking down the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College (0-11, 0-9), 18-11, in a Northeast-10 conference contest at Duffy Field.
Sophomore Julia Jette posted a career-high seven points, which came on three goals and a career-high four assists. In addition, Jette had one caused turnover. Senior Jessica Mazliah also tallied seven points and notched her 200th career point in the win, scoring three goals and assisting on four others. Sophomore Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) posted a team-high four goals on four shots, and sophomore Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J. /Jefferson Township ) and junior Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) each had a hat trick with three goals apiece.
Overall, New Haven led the way with a 30-19 advantage in the shots category, while also securing 22 of the 30 draw controls led by Linton who pulled down 11. Nolan followed up with eight draw controls.
In goal, sophomore Erica Rinsky (6-1) got the start and earned the win, making six saves in all 60 minutes of action.
Jette and Mazliah teamed up for the first two Charger goals, with Mazliah's second assist of the day coming as her 200th career point. Mazliah then added her first goal of the game, using a spin move and bouncing a shot past the keeper to take a one-goal lead. After Saint Michael's scored three of the next four goals, New Haven stormed back for nine-straight goals, including six-straight to end the first half, opening the Charger lead up to five.
After the run, Saint Michael's buried three-straight goals to pull the game back within five in the second half, but the teams traded goals the rest of the way as the Purple Knights were never able to close the gap further, helping New Haven secure the 18-11 victory.
The Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 13 when they travel to cross-town rival Southern Connecticut State for a matchup slated for 4:00 p.m.
