Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Morello Scores Late Goal, Women's Soccer Falls at Le Moyne, 2-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) collected her fifth goal of the season midway through the second half, but the comeback attempt fell just short as the University of New Haven women's soccer team fell to the Le Moyne Dolphins, 2-1 at Ted Grant Field on Saturday afternoon.

The match did not see much offense from either team, as both teams combined for only nine shots during the entire 90 minutes. New Haven had the edge on shot opportunities with five, all five of which were on target. The Chargers held the Dolphins to only four shots for the contest, including just one on the second half. Sophomore Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) got the start in goal, collecting just one save on the day.

Morello tallied three of the five Charger shots on goal, taking her first look just at the net just 2:09 into the contest when her attempt was stopped by Anastasija Cumika. Sophomore Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) put the next two shots on goal for the Blue and Gold, however each of her opportunities were stopped within five minutes of each other.

Just after the midway point, the Chargers opened the second stanza with a corner kick opportunity, as Roth found sophomore Natalia Roberts (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) who had her shot stopped. After David made her only save of the match in the 64th minute, Morello collected a through ball one minute later and placed her shot to the left side of the goal, as the Chargers cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Morello's goal was the final chance the Chargers had for the remainder of the contest, as the Blue and Gold came up just short.

With the defeat, the Chargers fall to 2-4-1 on the season, while Le Moyne improves to 3-4-0.

The Chargers will look to rebound on Wednesday, September 26 for a home match against Southern New Hampshire. Match time against the Penmen is slated for 7:00 pm. For fans who are unable to attend, live stats and video will be available on the Charger Sports Network.
