WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven men's soccer team will commence a two-game road trip beginning on Tuesday afternoon at Assumption. Originally scheduled for 7 p.m., kickoff has been moved up to the afternoon and will now begin at 1 p.m.
INSIDE THE SERIES
New Haven is 17-11-2 all-time against Assumption, and is unbeaten against the Greyhounds in their last three matchups, including a 2-1 win in 2016 and a pair of ties over the last two seasons.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (4-8-1, 2-6-1 NE10)
New Haven dropped a pair of games last week to Franklin Pierce (3-0) and Southern New Hampshire (2-1). The Chargers previously took down Saint Michael's 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 19 when
Francisco Guedes (Lisbon, Portugal/Maristas de Carcavelos) netted the golden goal in overtime.
JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) moved into a tie for the team lead with his fourth goal of the season, and took over the team led with 10 points on Saturday against SNHU.
Junior
Sean Skeens (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Boys) scored his third goal of the season in New Haven's win over Southern Connecticut. Senior
Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) has four goals and picked up his first assist on Saturday. Freshman
David Peteri (Rotterdam, Netherlands/Erasmiaans Gymnasium) has a pair of goals, and
Estanislao Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) and
Alvaro Ezpeleta (Vigo, Spain/Colegio Amor de Dios) are tied with a team-high four assists.
As a team, New Haven is scoring 1.69 goals per game this season, while allowing 2.23 per game. New Haven has had a good amount of success off set pieces so far this season, scoring nine goals off corner and free kicks through their first 13 games.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS (7-6-0, 5-4-0 NE10)
Assumption has seen a pair of long streaks thus far, starting the season by winning six of their first seven, including a six game winning streak. Since then, the Hounds have dropped five of their last six, which included a four-game skid. The team took down Saint Rose 2-0 on Oct. 19, and most recently fell 2-1 at Bridgeport on Wednesday.
Senior forward Jason Lages holds a team-high six goals and 14 points, with Kevin Hernandez next with four goals and eight points. Mauro Cortez boasts two goals and one assist for five points. Midfielder Jeremy Martin leads the way in assists with four.
Sophomore Sebastian Jimenez leads the team's three goalkeepers with a 1.73 goals against average and a .744 save percentage.
ON DECK
The Chargers will hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday with a trip to Le Moyne.
