OPENING TIP
Seeking their first 3-0 start in five years, the New Haven women's basketball team will host Bloomfield on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Charger Gymnasium. The Chargers have taken each of their first two home matchups of the year by double digits against Staten Island and Bridgeport.

INSIDE THE SERIES
-   The Chargers and Bears have met only twice before, both coming over the last three seasons.

-   The visiting team has reigned victorious in each matchup with New Haven taking the most recent contest, 59-41 at Bloomfield on 2/12/2018.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
-    New Haven is off to a 2-0 start for the second straight season following a 55-42 win over Bridgeport on Saturday.

-   A big reason for New Haven's start has been its stout defense, which ranks first in the NE10 in scoring defense (49.5 ppg) and field goal pct. defense (.276), and is second in the conference in both three-point pct. defense (.235) and steals per game (14.0).

-     Senior Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) led the way in Saturday's win over Bridgeport with her 10th career double-double when she posted 15 points and 12 rebounds.

-     Freshman Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has averaged 15 ppg through her first two collegiate games, including a 20-point performance against Staten Island. Her .706 field goal pct. (12-for-17) leads the NE10.

-     Sophomore Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) has scored double figures in both games with 10.5 ppg and is third with 6.5 rebounds per contest.
-     Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) ranks first in the NE10 with 4.5 steals per game and is sixth in the conference with a team-leading 4.5 assists per contest.

-     Wormack and Pergola lead the Chargers with 8.5 rebounds per game.

-   The Chargers were selected to finish third in the Southwest Division in this year's Northeast-10 Preseason Coach's Poll. New Haven returns four players that started in at least 17 games last season.

Reigning NE10 All-Rookie selection Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) was one of two all-conference honorees for the Chargers last season, a freshman campaign that saw her start all 30 games at guard and average 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She also led the team from beyond the arc where she shot 33.6 percent. She dished out 39 assists and was second on the team with 62 steals.

Forward Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) returns for her senior season after ranking fifth in the NE10 last season with a team-high .527 field goal pct. She was second on the team in both points per game (12.2) and rebounds per game (7.8). She had a career-game with 30 points and 18 rebounds at Pace on February 13, shooting 14-for-22 from the field.

Junior point guard Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) started all 30 games last season, scoring at a 7.8 ppg clip, while dishing out 79 assists (2.6 apg), which ranked second on the team. She connected on 36.7 percent of her shots from the floor and added 28 total steals. She reached double-figures in scoring on eight occasions and was first on the squad from the free throw line, where she held a .771 percentage.

The Chargers also return senior Kim Talley (Quakertown, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), who made 17 starts at forward last season. She averaged 3.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the floor.

The Chargers started last season 5-2 through the end of November. They went on to rattle off seven straight wins from Dec. 11 through January 16. The Chargers won their final three regular season NE10 matchups, including a 55-50 win over eventual NE10 Tournament champion Le Moyne in the regular season finale. The Chargers earned the Southwest Division's No. 3 seed in the NE10 Tournament and pulled off a 58-52 overtime upset at No. 2 seed Stonehill in the NE10 quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2016.

SCOUTING BLOOMFIELD
-   Entering Wednesday at 0-5, Bloomfield has dropped each of its first five games by at least 29 points, a stretch that includes NE10 strongholds Saint Anselm and Southern Connecticut.

-   Sophomore forward Jaylah Bennett leads the Bears with 11.6 points per game, followed by Caitlin Townes (7.4) and Tanazha Ford (6.8).

-   DaShanique Ruffin holds a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game, followed by Ford's 3.6 rpg.

-   As a team, Bloomfield is averaging 53.0 ppg and allowing 90.6 points per ballgame. Opponents have shot an even 50 percent against Bloomfield throughout the first five games and outrebounded them by an average of 5.6 boards per game.

LAST TIME THEY MET
On Feb. 12, 2018, New Haven allowed a season-low 41 points in a 59-41 win at Bloomfield. Then-freshman Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

New Haven led by as many as 21 points in the contest, helped by a 16-0 spurt in the fourth quarter.

NEXT ON TAP
New Haven will wrap up its four-game homestand this Saturday with their NE10 Conference opener against Le Moyne at 1:30 p.m.

AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Freshman Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) made quite the splash in her collegiate debut on Nov. 9, scoring 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and adding six rebounds and one steal. Her efforts earned her the NE10 Rookie of the Week selection, the first Charger to earn the honor since 2017-18 when teammate Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) earned the honor three different times.

She later scored 10 points with five rebounds against Bridgeport. She enters Wednesday shooting a NE10 Conference-leading 70.6 percent.

PERGOLA'S CAREER NIGHT
Junior guard Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) has set a new career-high in rebounding in each of the season's first two games. Her career-best nine rebound performance against Bridgeport on Saturday followed her career night against Staten Island, where she tallied a then-career-high eight rebounds and set a new career-high with six steals. She also tied her career-high with six assists.

Her previous career-highs were six rebounds, which she accomplished twice, and four steals (12/8/18 at Le Moyne). She has now reached six assists on three separate occasions.

PICKING UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
-   Senior Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) finished last year ranked fifth in the NE10 in field goal pct. (.527), the ninth-highest single season percentage in program history.

-   Wormack enters Wednesday tied for fourth all-time in program history with a career field goal percentage of .479 (306-639).

-   On Saturday, she picked up the 10th double-double of her career, scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.

-   In the Nov. 9 season opener, she shot just under 50 percent (6-for-13/.462) from the field to score 13 points.
