PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A slow start proved to be too much for the New Haven women's basketball team to overcome as the Chargers suffered their first loss of the season at Pace on Tuesday, 55-45. The Chargers now sit at 4-1 (1-1 NE10) on the season, while Pace moves to 6-1 (2-0 NE10).
Senior
Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) led New Haven with 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting to go with three steals and two blocks. She recorded her 100th career block in the game, becoming just the fourth player in school history to reach the milestone. Junior
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) scored nine points, and redshirt sophomore Luzdali Ocasio dished out six assists.
A strong defensive effort in the second half helped the Chargers (44.7 percent) outshoot Pace (41.3 percent) in the game, and the Chargers turned the ball over a season-low 16 times while forcing 18 Pace turnovers. After Pace shot over 63 percent in the opening half, New Haven held the Setters to just 5-for-24 from the field in the second half.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: Debbie Buff

I thought we played pretty well over the final three quarters and came out in the second half and played the way we are capable. I'm proud of the effort in the second half and that we battled back to make it a game. We're a young team and have to keep getting better every day."
