McMillan Nets a Pair of Career-Highs with 10 Points, 6 Assists as Chargers Fall to Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – Sophomore Kendall McMillan (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) was one of three players to finish with 10 points in the opening game of the Terrace Hotel Thanksgiving Classic with his output setting a career-high in the scoring column as the New Haven men's basketball team (1-3 overall) dropped an 84-56 decision to the host Florida Southern Mocs. The Chargers will close out the two-day tournament on Saturday evening when they take on Saint Leo with opening tip set for 5:30 p.m.

Joining McMillan in leading the Chargers offense was seniors Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) and Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) as the trio were part of eight total players who scored at least one field goal on the day. Following Bailey, Felizor and McMillan was redshirt sophomore Antonio Lopez (Medford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) with eight points and a pair of players who dropped in a half dozen; freshman Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) and redshirt sophomore Ross Jones II (Edgewood, Md./Friends School).

As a team, New Haven shot 36.2 percent for the night, connecting on 21-of-58 field goal attempts. The Chargers best shooting came in the opening half where they connected on 12-of-28 for a 40% effort and trailed the Mocs 45-31 at the break. Among the Chargers 21 total field goals were nine from outside the three point arc with four different players all registering a pair.

In addition to finishing as one of the leading scorers, Felizor also led the Blue and Gold with eight rebounds followed by Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) who hauled in five boards to go along with four points and three assists. As a team, the Chargers finished with 32 rebounds, trailing in the battle of the boards 38-32.

McMillan, who already set one career-high with his 10 points, also set a new career-best dishing out a team-high six assists, part of 16 total for the team.
