ALBANY, N.Y. – A goal from graduate student
Maaike Rahms (Waddinxveen, Netherlands/) gave the New Haven women's soccer team an early lead, but No. 11 Saint Rose rallied for two goals before the end of the half and held off the Chargers in a 2-1 final on Tuesday afternoon.
Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) picked up her fourth assist of the season, moving into a tie for the team lead in that category.
Saint Rose (14-2-1, 10-2-1 NE10) put 11 shots on goal to the Chargers six, and held a 4-1 edge in corners.
Rahms got the Chargers on the board on New Haven's first shot attempt of the game, taking a one-touch pass from Roth on the left side and netting her first goal of the season to put New Haven up 1-0 late in the 15th minute.
After missing the mark with three shots, and a save from
Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin), Saint Rose evened up the scoring in the 19th minute on a goal from Olivia Boucher, who touched home a shot that was initially deflected.
Roth had a shot saved in the 32nd minute before the Golden Knights broke through once again, taking the lead for good in the 34th minute when Caitlyn Dabagian took a pass from the left side, dribbled in and planted one from 15 yards out for what proved to be the game-winner.
Each team mustered four shots on goal in the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net. Rahms and Roth each put a shot on the goal in the frame, along with a pair from
Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme). Davis made four of her nine saves in the second half for New Haven to keep the Golden Knights off the board.
The Chargers conclude the season at 4-11-2 overall and 3-9-1 in Northeast-10 play.
