WEST HAVEN, Conn.- Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) grabbed a career-high 14 draw controls, second most in a single game, as the University of New Haven women's lacrosse team downed Saint Michael's, 20-6, on Saturday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) scored a season best four goals to tie her career-high.
Jette also chipped in three assists to finish the day with a season best seven points. Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) scored a game-high seven goals also finishing with seven points. Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) added a season-high five goals, while Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) scored twice. Mary Rishmany (Tiverton, R.I./Bishop Stang) scored her first career goal, and Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) finished with two points, scoring once and adding an assist. Kayla Pjatak (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) earned a point as she chipped in an assist.
Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) secured her ninth victory in goal with eight saves in 45 minutes of game time. Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) had three saves on the day as she closed out the game in net for the Chargers.
The Chargers dominated in the circle, winning a majority of the draw controls, 21-7. Behind Nolan's 14, Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) had five and Reh had two. Megan McLoughlin (Bohemia, N.Y./Connequot), Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot), and Linton each finished with two caused turnovers while Zoe Wilkins (Plainfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) had one.
After a quiet opening five minutes of play, Reh and Maher alternated tallies to give the Chargers an early seven goal lead. The Purple Knights were not able to get on the board until the 15th minute of the first half. Less than 15 seconds later, Jette would score her first goal of the day, followed by Maher who notched her fourth goal.
Saint Michael's scored two goals in a row to cut the deficit to six goals. Jette and Galler took turns scoring to regain a nine goal lead. The Purple Knights would score once more, but Reh responded with her fifth goal 20 seconds later. Jette closed out the first half with her second of the day to give the Chargers a nine-goal lead at the break.
Reh opened up the second half with a free position goal, starting the Chargers four-goal run. In that span, Nolan, Maher, and Jette all found the back of the net. Saint Michael's would break through for the first of its two second half goals. Nolan notched her second goal of the game on a free position attempt. The Purple Knights scored their last goal of the game as the defense shut them down for the remaining 13 minutes. Reh would score once more for her seventh of the game, and Rishmany notched her first collegiate goal to round out scoring.
After a short two-day break, the Chargers return to action on Tuesday, April 16th when they take on No. 4 LIU Post under the lights at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Opening draw in the non-conference matchup is set for 7:00 pm.
