Reh's Eight Goals Leads No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Past Stonehill

EASTON, Mass.- Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) scored the final three goals for the Chargers to tie the game and take the lead as the 16th ranked University of New Haven women's lacrosse team defeated Stonehill, 15-14, in a Northeast-10 matchup on Saturday afternoon. Reh netted a total of eight goals and had one assist to finish with a team high nine points for the second straight game.

Reh was one of six Chargers to score on the day. Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot) both notched two goals. Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township), Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) all had one goal to round out the New Haven scorers. Jette also added a team high four assists to finish the game with five points and Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) had two assists.

Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) earned her first win of the season in goal, coming into the game with eight minutes left. She had one save and allowed only one goal in between the pipes. Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) started the game in net for the Chargers and had four saves on the day.

The Blue and Gold edged out Stonehill in the draw control category, winning 17-15. Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) had a team-high six draw controls, while Reh and Nolan both grabbed five. Hailey Lyne (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) had three of the team's 10 caused turnovers on the day. Alyssa Bourque (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown) had two, while Reh, Skelly, Galler, Guerra and Linton all had one.

The Chargers got out to an early 3-0 lead behind Reh's opening goal in the first 50 seconds of the game. Holland and Reh once again scored in the Chargers' opening run. The Skyhawks got on the board, cutting the deficit to two. Reh and Skelly scored within a minute of each other to take a four goal lead. Stonehill answered with two goals of their own, coming less than a minute apart from each other in the 14th minute of the first half.

New Haven answered as Maher connected with Skelly who scored her second goal of the game. After six minutes of scoreless play, Stonehill broke through and scored once more to pull within two. Reh scored one more time before halftime to send the Chargers into the break with a 7-4 lead.

Coming out of halftime, Jette connected with Nolan, who scored in the first 15 seconds of the second half. Less than 40 seconds later Jette found the back of the net, with the assist coming from Maher. Stonehill answered with back-to-back goals, before Reh converted a free position attempt. Stonehill scored five unanswered goals to take the lead for the first time in the game.

Jette and Galler teamed up to stop Stonehill's run, as Galler scored twice within a minute to tie the game and regain the lead for the Chargers. Stonehill answered with back-to-back goals once again to take the lead back with eight minutes left to play. Reh was able to convert another free position attempt to tie the game. She won the next draw control and scored with a little over five minutes left to play to give the Chargers the lead. Reh scored her eighth goal of the game, gathering the pass from Jette, to extend the lead to two goals. Despite another Skyhawks' goal with 10 seconds remaining in the second half, the Chargers held on to win the game.

New Haven returns to Kathy Zolad Stadium on Wednesday, April 24 to take on No. 21 Bentley for the final home game of the regular season. Prior to opening draw of the 7:00 pm matchup, the Chargers will honor their five seniors.
