MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) recorded five points behind three goals and two assists to help lead the University of New Haven women's lacrosse team past Saint Anselm 10-7 on Saturday afternoon. Reh now has 106 points this season, surpassing the previous record of 102 set by Kathryn Campbell in 2014 for the most points in a single season in program history.
Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) also had a multiple goal game, as both scored twice. Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot) all tallied one goal on the day. Jette added in three assists while Maher had two.
Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) earned her 10th win of the season in goal. The junior goalkeeper made six saves on 13 shots faced. Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) won nine of the team's 13 draw controls on the day. Nolan had three and Reh had one. Linton also had two caused turnovers, while Nolan, Skelly and Hailey Lyne (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) all had one.
It was a quiet opening seven minutes of the game, before Nolan broke through to give the Chargers a 1-0 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Maher and Nolan both scored to extend the Chargers' lead to three. Guerra did not allow a goal for the first 20 minutes of the game, and that was the only goal she allowed for the entire first half.
With eight minutes remaining in the first half, Galler teamed up with Jette to find the back of the net for the first time on the day. Reh scored her first goal of the game, gathering the pass from Jette to give the Chargers a 5-1 lead going into halftime.
Reh opened up the second half with a free position goal. The Hawks then scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to three. Galler scored her second of the day, which was assisted by Reh to retake a four-goal lead. Saint Anselm went on a three goal run to climb within one with seven and a half minutes left of the game.
Skelly kicked off a three-goal run for the Chargers. Maher connected with Jette who took advantage of a man-up situation to extend the lead to three once again. Reh completed her hat trick, converting on another free position attempt to close out the scoring for the Chargers. The Hawks scored once more with 16 seconds left of the game.
The Chargers closed out the regular season with an overall record of 11-6 and a conference mark of 9-4 and have secured the third seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship. First round action will take place on Wednesday night when they Chargers travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. for a rematch with the third seeded Pace Setters. Opening draw in the quarterfinal match-up is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Pace Stadium. In the first meeting this season, the Chargers took a 13-9 decision over the then-ranked No. 16 Setters with that game also taking place under the lights at Pace Stadium.
