A Career-High Six Goals from Nolan Helps Lead Chargers Over AIC 17-5

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – A 10 goal rally that spanned the two halves led the University of New Haven to a convincing 17-5 victory over the visiting American International Yellow Jackets for the Chargers second-straight NE10 win. A pair of Chargers led the way with a team-high six goals with senior Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) and junior Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) each notching the half dozen tallies. The six goals for Nolan surpassed her previous career-high of five set last season.

Of the pair of leading scorers, Reh led the team overall with seven points, adding an assist to her six tallies. Nolan also finished with six draw controls as New Haven led in that category 18-6. Overall, six different Chargers found the back of the cage for New Haven with freshman Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot) the only other player to finish with a multi-goal outing closing out the game with a pair of scores. Juniors Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Olivia Serpa (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) along with freshman Meredith Karsonovich (Hampton Falls, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) all rounded out the New Haven scorers with the latter of those the first first collegiate tally for Karsonovich.

Jette also added a team-high two assists for three total points while sophomore Grace Loeffler (Boca Raton, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) joined her in leading the team with a pair of assists. Four other players would all offer helpers on the day; senior Kayla Pjatak (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), juniors Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) and sophomore Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry).

New Haven never trailed in the game, opening up the contest with back-to-back goals inside of the first eight minutes of action. Reh would be the first to find the back of the cage, scoring on a free position attempt in the fourth minute of the game, while Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) notched her first of the day three minutes later.

After the Yellow Jackets broke up the shutout in the ninth minute of action, New Haven rattled off three straight goals all coming from different players. The first in that stretch was the first of the day for Skelly off a feed from Loeffler while Reh followed with another free position goal. Nolan would cap off the early rally with her second of the day off a pass from Jette.

AIC would muster the next two goals to pull within a pair at 5-3, before New Haven dug in to begin what would amount to a 10 goal run that spanned the final 11:16 of the first half and the first 6:19 of the second half. Nolan opened up the string of New Haven goals on a free position score and would eventually score four of the first five goals in the run with the only not from her courtesy of Skelly.

Included in Nolan's rash of three-straight goals that followed Skelly's goal was a pair of man-up goals as the Chargers took advantage of two seven-vs-six opportunities provided by AIC. Reh then closed out the opening half scoring twice in the final 62 seconds of action, the first thanks to a pass in the middle from Jette and the second unassisted.

Reh would then come out of the gate in the second half to score the first two of the period for New Haven extending the rally to nine unanswered. Both of those scores came without an assist, the first on a free position attempt. Jette would close out the 10-goal run for New Haven with her lone goal of the game coming on another free position attempt.

AIC would break up New Haven momentum with a man-up goal from Mary Bates before the Chargers mustered a man-down score from Olivia Serpa (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) as she scored without assistance. The squads would trade the final two goals of the day with New Haven's final tally coming with 5:09 to play as Linton came directly off the draw to find Karsonovich on a breakaway attempt for the rookie's first collegiate goal.

New Haven will head to Manchester, N.H. for its next game, a midweek battle against the Southern New Hampshire Penmen at the newly constructed Penmen Stadium. Opening draw in the conference battle is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
