The University of New Haven Women's soccer team continues NE10 play on Wednesday when they travel to Bentley for a 3:30 p.m. kick off. Both teams enter looking for their first conference win, with the Chargers looking to rebounds after falling in a hard fight against Stonehill on Saturday afternoon, 1-0.
SERIES HISTORY
New Haven and Bentley meet for the 23rd time in the history of the programs with the all-time record between the two teams in favor of the Chargers, 11-9-2. In most recent history, Bentley has won the battle in each of the past three seasons, while New Haven is looking to break that streak, and take its first Northeast-10 win of the season.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS ( 1-2-1, 0-1 NE10)
Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who was named to the NE10 honor roll on Monday, continues to lead the team with five points, on two goals and an assist. Following Roth in leading the Chargers is Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme), who is second on the team with four points on a pair of goals, both of which came against Bloomfield.
Defensively, the Chargers are led by goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) who was named the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. Davis collected a career-high 13 saves on 14 shots faced against Stonehill last week. She opened up the game stopping all six shots she faced as she shut-out the Skyhawks through the first half. That performance followed her first win of the season when she stopped four of the five shots she faced in a 5-1 win over Bloomfield.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS (1-1-1, 0-0, NE10)
Bentley will open its NE10 schedule on Wednesday when they face New Haven. Coming off of a home loss to Westminster (Utah), the Falcons are led by junior Marissa Burns and Sophomore Rebecca Nguyen who each have two points. These two key players, have both recorded a goal for Bentley with each scoring as part of a 2-0 shutout of Dominican at the Molloy Kickoff Classic. The only other player with a point on the season is freshman Liliana Silva, who the first assist of her career also against Dominican.
Junior Kat Hassapis has seen the majority of time in net for the Falcons. Starting all three games, she has record 11 saves, including two shutouts. Hassapis save percentage entering Wednesday stands at .846, surrendering just two goals on the year.
