WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven field hockey program will take the field to begin their much anticipated third season on Thursday night when they host American International at DellaCamera Stadium. The non-conference matchup is slated for 7 p.m.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Chargers have dropped each of their first two matchups all-time against the Yellow Jackets. Most recently, AIC held off a late push for a 3-2 win at DellaCamera Stadium last season. The same two foes will meet again in two weeks for a Northest-10 Conference matchup in Springfield on Sept. 21.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (0-0, 0-0 NE10)
New Haven returns 15 players, including 12 sophomores to this year's squad that saw significant time as freshmen last season. The Chargers return three upperclassmen in junior forward
Nina Bazan (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and goalkeeper
Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown), plus senior defender
Ashley Higgins (North Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy). New Haven also welcomes back sophomore
Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran), who was an NE10 All-Rookie selection in 2018, and
Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) who was named Third Team All-NE10, in addition to the All-Rookie Team.
The Chargers were selected to finish 10th in this year's NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll. They picked up their first two wins in program history last season with wins over Mercy and Southern Connecticut State.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS (0-0, 0-0 NE10)
AIC was picked 11th, one spot behind New Haven in the NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll. Coming off a 3-15 campaign a season ago, the team returns seniors Chelsea Davis and Jenny Holmquist as its two leading point-scorers from 2018. Davis led the team with six goals and added three assists for 15 total points, while Holmquist netted three goals and two assists. Jessica Stone started 17 games in goal as a freshman last season, compiling a 3.32 goals-against average and .722 save percentage while earning all three of the team's wins.
