Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Post in Season Opener

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The New Haven women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Post University in the season opener for both teams on Friday night. The game was held as part of a season-opening invitational hosted by Pace University.

Sophomore Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) scored her second career goal for New Haven, coming off an assist from senior Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille). The Chargers outshot Post 20-6 and held a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Junior Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) got the start in goal for the Chargers and tallied four saves.

The Chargers scored first in the 27th minute when Ni Bhraonain took a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, and served it into the box to a wide open Myers who turned and slid it past the keeper into the bottom right corner of the goal to put New Haven up 1-0.

New Haven kept the lead all the way until the closing minutes of regulation when the Eagles took advantage of a foul in the box in the 87th minute, and capitalized on the ensuing penalty kick to knot the score 1-1.

New Haven's defense held Post to zero shot attempts in extra time. The Chargers put three shots on goal during overtime, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Blue and Gold will return to the pitch at Pace once again on Sunday afternoon for a neutral site matchup with Georgian Court at 4 p.m.

NOTES:
The Chargers remain unbeaten against Post all-time at 13-0-2 dating back to the first matchup in 1995. The other draw in the series came in 2002.
