WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven field hockey program will look to bounce back on the road on Sunday afternoon with a non-conference clash at Assumption. Start time is set for 2 p.m.

INSIDE THE SERIES
The Chargers have dropped each of their first three matchups all-time against Assumption over the past two years. Click here for a complete series history.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (0-1, 0-0 NE10)
The Chargers are coming off a 2-0 opening night setback on Thursday at home against American International.

Despite the setback, junior goalkeeper Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) registered six saves, allowing her squad to stay within striking distance throughout. The netminder highlighted a pair of scoreless periods for the Chargers, registering three saves in the opening frame, holding the Yellow Jackets off the board until five minutes into the second period.

Offensively, New Haven registered six shots, marking four of them on goal. Sophomore Morgan McCarty (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) finished with a pair of shots on target.

New Haven returns 15 players, including 12 sophomores to this year's squad that saw significant time as freshmen last season. The Chargers return three upperclassmen in junior forward Nina Bazan (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and Shaker, plus senior defender Ashley Higgins (North Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy). New Haven also welcomes back sophomore Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran), who was an NE10 All-Rookie selection in 2018, and Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) who was named Third Team All-NE10, in addition to the All-Rookie Team.

The Chargers were selected to finish 10th in this year's NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll. They picked up their first two wins in program history last season with wins over Mercy and Southern Connecticut State.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS (0-0, 0-0 NE10)
Assumption will open their season against the Chargers on Sunday. They Greyhounds were selected fourth in this year's NE10 Preseason Poll after advancing all the way to the conference semifinals last year following an opening round upset of top seeded Pace. The Hounds return their top two scorers from 2018 in juniors Deirdre Burchill (12 goals) and Jenny Beardsley (11 goals). The squad landed Burchill on the All-NE10 Second Team, current senior Sam Tepper on the All-NE10 Third Team and current sophomore Lucy Malia on the all-rookie team.

ON DECK
The Chargers will open up Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Mercy. It will be the Chargers first trip to Mercy since picking up the first win in program history against the Mavericks last season.
