ALBANY, N.Y. – Behind the fourth double-double of the season for senior
Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany), New Haven women's basketball prevailed for a key 56-49 win at Saint Rose on Wednesday evening. Wormack led all scorers with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while shooting 7-for-12 from the field and adding four steals. Freshman
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) scored 14 points on 5-of-8 from the field to go with eight rebounds. Sophomore
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) tallied nine points and four rebounds, and junior
Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y./New Milford) chipped in seven points and five rebounds.
New Haven (16-7, 10-6 NE10) controlled the paint by a 30-8 margin. The Chargers also used a 37-24 edge on the glass to outscore the Golden Knights 14-4 on second chances. The Chargers also were a clutch 12-for-14 from the free throw line, including 6-for-6 in the final 38 seconds to help seal the victory.

FIRST QUARTER
- Wormack had two putback buckets early, and Deshaies completed a three-point play as the Chargers found themselves trailing 8-7 at the 3:07 mark.
- Wormack added a turnaround jumper in the lane, and a foul line jumper in the final minute as the Chargers trailed 17-14 after one.
- Wormack scored 10 points in the opening quarter while hitting five of her six field goal attempts.
SECOND QUARTER
- Jasmine White (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored four points early in the second as Saint Rose maintained a four-point lead, 21-17 at the 6:05 mark as New Haven called timeout.
- The Chargers took command following the break with a 12-0 run, holding the Golden Knights without a field goal over the final 7:34 of the half.
- Chambers started the run with four points, DeBose added three, and Deshaies scored five, including three free throws to help the Chargers take a 29-21 lead with 1:06 remaining.
- New Haven outscored Saint Rose 16-6 overall in the second quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
- Deshaies had an early layup and Pergola turned a steal into points with a foul line jumper to help the Chargers go up by seven, 33-26 in the opening minute.
- White found Wormack with a beautiful pass down low for a layup that put New Haven up 39-34 with 3:23 to go.
- Saint Rose scored the final five points of the quarter, and sank a trio of three-pointers in the period to tie the score at 39-all heading to the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) gave New Haven the lead back 43-41 with a smooth jumper from the elbow, and Chambers followed with a big three from the left wing to grow the edge to 46-43 at 7:23.
- Deshaies scored off a feed from Wormack at 6:19, but did not score again until Wormack scored off a dish from White at 2:55 to go up 50-45.
- Saint Rose would get within four before Wormack hit four free throws and grabbed a steal, all within a 13-second span to help the Chargers pad the lead, their largest of the night, 54-46 with 25.6 seconds left.
- After a Saint Rose three, DeBose hit two free throws to put the game away for the 56-49 final.
New Haven will return home to Charger Gymnasium when they face American International on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
