WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's basketball team returned to NE10 Southwest Division play on Wednesday night and dropped a 53-48 decision to the visiting Pace Setters. Leading the Blue and Gold on the night was sophomore point guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who finished with 12 points and was the only Charger player to net double figures.

Lane's team-high 12 points came on a 50 percent shooting effort, connecting on 5-of-10 from the field, including a pair of three pointers while he also pulled down four rebounds, picked off a pair of steals and dished out a single assist. Joining him in leading the Charger offense was redshirt junior Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) and senior Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) who finished with nine and eight points, respectively.

A pair of Chargers came off the bench to combined for 11 points total with D'Nathan Knox (Wheatley Heights, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) scoring six points and Antonio Lopez (Medford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) chipping in five. Both Knox and Lopez also hit one basket from beyond the three point arc, while as a team the Chargers were limited to just five three pointers, in 23 attempts (21.7 percent). Rounding out New Haven's scoring was Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) with five points and Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) with three.

The Blue and Gold also trailed Pace in the battle of the boards by a final margin of 39-32. Leading New Haven over all was Felizor who hauled in eight rebounds, while Thomas and lane each followed with four. Overall, seven of the eight players in the game for New Haven all pulled down at least one board. In addition to his five points and eight boards, Felizor also dished out a team-high three assists.

As a squad, New Haven closed out the night shooting 34.6 percent from the field as they connected on 18 field goals in 42 attempts. The 18 buckets and 34.6 percent effort were season lows for the Chargers. In addition to the five three pointers, the Chargers also net seven points at the free throw line, with those coming on 11 attempts for a 63.6 percent effort.

New Haven will return to the court on Saturday when they travel to Syracuse, N.Y. for a date with the Le Moyne Dolphins. Opening tip in the NE10 Southwest division battle is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., following the women's game.
