ITA SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD LIST
TEMPE, Ariz. – In addition to being named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, seven members of the program were honored individually as ITA Scholar Athletes as revealed by the national organization.
Overall, 129 women's tennis programs across the country were honored with Team All-Academic accolades which requires a minimum team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The team GPA is based on a cumulative grade point average for the current academic year (2019-20), with New Haven's cumulative GPA coming in at 3.60 following an impressive spring semester with a combined GPA of 3.77, the highest among all of New Haven's 17 varsity programs. In addition to the Chargers, four other Northeast-10 programs were honored among the 129 total.
To be honored individually as an ITA Scholar Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and must be listed on the institutional eligibility form. Overall, seven of the Chargers nine members of the program received the honors; Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta), Nicole Calabrese (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina), Katherine MacPhail (Park City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic), Angela Mercurio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip), Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) and Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista).
Overall, 762 Division II women's student-athletes received ITA Scholar Athlete distinction with the seven Chargers the second most among all NE10 programs honored, behind only Saint Michaels who saw eight student-athletes earn the distinction.
