Carreras Earns Pair of Wins as Women's Tennis Fall in 4-3 Decision to STAC

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) picked up a pair of victories Friday afternoon as the New Haven women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to STAC. The result puts the Blue and Gold at an even 3-3 on the year as the first half of the fall campaign winds down.

The Chargers opened doubles play with the usual No. 1 pairing of graduate students Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) and Gaayatri Shankar (Kochi, India/TocH Public School) who earned a 6-3 win, their fifth as a duo this season. Carreras and graduate Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) followed at the No. 2 position with a 6-4 victory to earn the doubles point for their side.

Carreras would earn one of two victories for New Haven in the singles round with a straight set sweep 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. The other win would come at No. 4 singles by way of junior Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) who won her match in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

The Blue and Gold would fall in the No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 contests, with Andric retiring from her match at No. 1 singles due to injury.
