The Southern Connecticut Owls will step onto Kathy Zolad Stadium Wednesday night for the annual New Haven rivalry game.
SERIES HISTORY
The competition between these two local schools has gone on for over 20 years now, making Wednesday nights action the 21st meet-up in the Elm City. The Chargers have dropped the last two decisions against the Owls, and prior to that the two teams remained scoreless throughout 110 minutes calling a draw. Overall the Owls lead the series with ten victories, leaving New Haven with a 6-10-5 record over the span of their relationship.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (4-8–1, 1-8 NE10)
The Blue and Gold have been absent of a win since Sept. 26 when Saint Michael's came to West Haven. Since then, New Haven has added four to its loss column and a 1-1 draw against non-conference Holy Family. Wednesday's game is one of four remaining in the regular season, two of which include back-to-back road games. Meghan Dellea (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) has met her teammate, Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella), at the top of the list in terms of scoring so far this season, each with three goals. Not too far behind them is Vickie Flaming with two goals and three assists. The Chargers average an exact single goal per game and have totaled 101 shots up to this point in the season. They also have accumulated 11 yellow cards, five more than their opponents in game play.
SCOUTING THE OWLS (4-5-2, 3-3-2 NE10)
Sitting eighth in NE10 standings, the Owls are currently 4-5-2 overall and have a winning percent of .500 in conference play. Since their game scheduled for Post University that was cancelled at the end of September, Southern Connecticut has gone 3-0-1 in their last four games, including a 3-0 victory against Le Moyne College, which is who the Chargers fell to this past Saturday. Leading the Owls in scoring is Kelsey Burr, with three so far this season. Burr held the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the second half against Franklin Pierce last Wednesday. The most aggressive Owl in front of the goal has 22 attempts towards the net, Kaitlyn D'Amico.
