Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls to Southern Connecticut on Pink Night

The New Haven Chargers fell by two to their crosstown rival, the Southern Connecticut Owls, Wednesday night. Wednesday's game was the teams "pink night" to honor breast cancer awareness.

How it Happened
Going into the break, both teams remained without a goal, but in the 58th minute Southern Connecticut made the board off of a penalty kick.

After checking in for Kaitlyn D'Amico in the 59th minute, Emma McMurray scored Southern's second goal of the night.

New Haven attempted one single shot in the first half, and a pick up of intensity from the bench allowed for two more shots, in attempt to cut their deficit. Both shots came from forward, Katherine Dennehy (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) each separated by four minutes.

In the final six minutes, each team was assessed a yellow card. The first was to Gabriela Garcia-Perez (Guilford, Conn./Guilford), and just seconds before the final buzzer sounded one was handed to Greta Brunello of the Owls.

Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) stood in front of six shots in the first half, and that number more than doubled to 13 in the second. Davis tallied seven saves, doing so for the fifth time so far this season, her season-high saves per game was 13 when the team faced Saint Anselm.

What's Next?
The Chargers regular season inches to an end, remaining are two back-to-back road games, and conclude with a Wednesday night game versus Saint Rose. New Haven will venture to Springfield this coming Saturday, Oct. 23 to take on American International College at 1:00 p.m.
