THE LEAD
The University of New Haven men's soccer team will travel to Manchester to take on the Southern New Hampshire Penmen at Penmen Stadium on Oct. 23 at 7:00 PM.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Southern New Hampshire holds a commanding lead in the series matchup. The Chargers trail in the series, entering the game with a 4-25-1 record against the Penmen. When the Penmen have a 3-12 record when hosting the Chargers. The last time the two teams met was on Oct. 26, 2019 and it resulted in a 2-1 loss for New Haven. Click Here for a complete series history.
 

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (5-4-2, 2-4-2 NE10)
Struggles have continued for the Chargers as its been four games since their last victory. 

Last time the Chargers took the pitch, the squad came just short of an upset of the No. 1 Franklin Pierce Ravens in a 2-1 loss on Oct. 19 at Kathy Zolad Stadium.

For the first time on the season, New Haven was outshot by an opponent, 15-3 (11-2 on goal).

Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) scored his tenth goal of the season, stemming from a assist by JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour). Santanach is now tied for second in the NE10 in goals scored.

Viruet tallied his second assist on the season. Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) (6) and Alexander Gunnarsson (Kopavogur, Iceland/Verzlenarskoli Islands) (5) have fallen to fourth and fifth for assists in the conference, respectively.

Freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) made nine saves in the goal last game, bringing his season total up to 46. Kastoris's 46 saves places him at fifth in the NE10.

The Chargers stay at seventh in the NE10 standings with eight points in conference play. New Haven is now fourth in goals scored as a team (25) in the NE10..

SCOUTING THE PENMEN (7-4-1, 5-2-1 NE10)
After being ranked third in the  NE10 Preseason Coaches's Poll, the Southern New Hampshire Penmen had lofty expectations coming into the season.

Coming off a 9-4-4 record in their last full season, the Penmen now come into Saturday's matchup with a 7-4-1 record on the 2021 season. Despite going 4-1-3 at home in 2019, the Penmen are currently 3-2-1 when hosting.

Their last time on the field was Oct. 20 in a 3-1 victory over the Saint Michael's Purple Knights at Penmen Stadium in Manchester.

On offense the Penmen are led by forward Michael Goncalves, who enters the matchup with 10 points on the year. The team as a whole has scored 24 goals on the season, one less than the Chargers. Their defense has been stout too, allowing only 11 goals to date. 

Goalkeepers Jackson Rivers and Santiago Rojas have both seen their share in between the posts, with Rivers getting the most recent nod. Rivers enters the matchup with 34 saves and an 85% save percentage.

Saint Michael's entered the season with a diverse roster with six freshman, six sophomores, eight juniors, four seniors and seven graduate students.

After spending seven seasons as an assistant coach with the program, Josh Taylor was named the eighth head coach in SNHU men's soccer program history on April 30, 2015. Taylor holds a record of 71-21-13 (48-15-9) record at the helm in Manchester.

The New Haven men's soccer team will host Assumption on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 4:00 PM at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
